Hi Mommy v1.0.1 now up on itch.io
This past 3 weeks or so I decided to make my second project after a long devving hiatus, and I decided to make a horror game. This is my first time ever making a horror game but I think overall it went well. I have Godot engine's simplicity to thank for that as I found it very easy to relearn everything despite 1 year hiatus.
Unlike my previous projects, this time I had an intermediate project I had been working on, a platformer game template, that I used as a template for this game. I paid extra attention to good coding practices (e.g. state machine) and expandibility this time, resulting in much tidier, far less horrifying codes compared to my previous projects... at least at the beginning before I suddenly found out about another jam I just have to participate in that shortened my deadline for this project by one whole week lol
Due to the nature of the game, I also had to learn about tools I have never used before in Godot, such as lighting system. Fortunately, despite some initial difficulties that tool too like everything in Godot (except for dhaders) is easy to learn.
Because I spent extra time making the foundation first this time instead of straight to contents, when it comes to adding contents it was much easier than before with much less hard coding because I coded all the easily customizable objects I needed first. If it weren't for the last week this could have been my first project that is free of spaghetti code lol
Unfortunately as previously stated I suddenly found another jam that I REALLY have to participate in so I had to rush this project's completion during the last week, resulting in so many ad hoc solutions for various features that lead to spaghetti codes m(_ _)m
Overall this project has been a good learning experience for me with regards to the importance of good coding practices and building foundations/tools first before adding contents
